Position: Senior Product Engineer

Schedule: This full-time position will work from the Augustine Institute campus in Florissant, Missouri.

Reporting to: Senior Manager of Platform Development

Role Summary

• Partner with Product Managers to translate early-stage product ideas into clearly defined, technically feasible, and actionable concepts.
• Reduce risk ahead of significant engineering investment by exploring, prototyping, validating, and refining product concepts.
• Serve as a bridge between Product, Engineering, and end users, ensuring that features move into development well-defined, appropriately scoped, and supported by evidence.
• Help engineering teams focus their efforts on the product ideas most likely to deliver meaningful value to users.
• Support Product in gathering, analyzing, and communicating customer feedback, experiment results, and validation data.

Key Responsibilities

• Own product concepts and features through the definition and pre-development stages.
• Maintain a current understanding of each platform's features and user experience to inform product decisions.
• Work with Product Managers to clarify ambiguous or incomplete ideas and translate product intent into requirements that engineering teams can act on.
• Develop user stories, functional requirements, prototypes, technical explorations, and other artifacts needed to define a product concept.
• Rapidly prototype potential solutions to test product direction, usability, feasibility, and key assumptions before committing to full development.
• Partner with Product Managers to lead the validation process for assigned concepts, including prototyping, limited releases, instrumentation, analysis, feedback, and iteration.
• Partner with Product Managers to gather and interpret qualitative and quantitative user feedback, including product analytics, user comments, suggestions, and interviews.
• Help narrow a broad pipeline of product ideas into a smaller set of well-defined, validated opportunities suitable for engineering investment.
• Identify technical, product, architectural, and user-experience tradeoffs affecting multiple products, including Formed, Amen, LMS platforms, and the Educator Platform.
• Collaborate closely with engineers to ensure proposed solutions are realistic, well understood, appropriately scoped, and aligned with the broader technology environment.
• Hand off concepts to development teams with sufficient definition and validation to support confident implementation.
• Monitor product analytics, user feedback, and adoption after release to identify opportunities for further iteration.
• Support the creation of changelogs, customer-facing documentation, and support and operational training materials.
• Help strengthen the connection between rapid product prototyping and production development so that exploratory work increasingly accelerates, rather than simply precedes, engineering implementation.
• Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, and users to understand their needs, constraints, and opportunities.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, translating between product needs, user needs, and technical considerations.
• Proactively identify gaps and opportunities within the product development process and take ownership in addressing them.
• Contribute to additional product and technology initiatives as organizational needs evolve.
