About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) Duration: 6 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NIHSS Must-Have: Early recognition of change in patient condition Clear communication and escalation with providers Critical thinking skills Experience with CRRT Hemodynamic monitoring Chest tubes Ventilator management Monitoring various drains and surgical sites Ability to titrate drips Description: Busy, large Level 1 Trauma Unit. Candidates must be flexible with scheduling. Self-scheduling is not available. Mandatory weekend coverage is required every other week. Be prepared for a heavy patient load with ratios of 1:2 or 1:3 based on patient acuity and circumstances. RNs are responsible for reading telemetry strips using Philips monitors. There is a charge nurse on each shift, who may also take an assignment as needed. Patient care techs may be present depending on census, with a typical ratio of 1 tech for every 12 patients. An intensivist is on the unit 24 hours a day. Respiratory therapy is available in the intensive care unit 24/7. RNs are involved in troubleshooting respiratory equipment but not required to operate it. Floating to other intensive care units within the facility may be necessary based on staffing needs. Scrub colors typically include teal bottoms with coordinating tops; professional appearance is required. Nail decor is limited to unchipped regular polish without overlays. Candidates should have experience in a fast-paced hospital setting with a demonstrated ability to manage complex patient needs. Advanced knowledge in handling common diagnoses and surgical procedures is preferred. This role requires a strong commitment to providing high-quality patient care in a challenging environment.
