Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks for company buildings in one or more fields (e.g., carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, etc.). Performs general cleaning and other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Identify and assist with electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and repair work.
• Inspect buildings, electrical systems, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
• Identify and perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures, open clogged lines, and drains.
• Perform minor troubleshooting and repairs; replace light bulbs, ballasts, and fuses.
• Perform a variety of locksmith duties; install, repair, and replace locks on doors.
• Paint, remodel, and refurbish areas as needed.
• Assist in the maintenance of the Company owned railroad tracks.
• Assist with snow removal
• Assist with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on HVAC system, changing filters, blower motors, and bearings.
• Inspect, service and maintain operational functionality of automatic doors.
• Complete maintenance work orders as assigned and in a timely manner.
• Assist with moving loading, unloading, and storing supplies, furniture, and equipment.
• Must be able to work flexible hours.
• Responds to necessary situations on-call basis when assigned.
• Adjustment of hours and/or weekend work may be required and/or occasional overtime.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Repetitive lifting and moving of products and materials
• Lift and/or move up to 80lbs. individually; on occasions may encounter heavier weightlifting requirements
• Lift and/or move over 80lbs. with the assistance of another person
• Required to remain on your feet for up to 4 hours at a time
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers in order to perform such tasks as type on a computer keyboard and communicate with a hand-held radio
• Foot dexterity
• Full range of motion with hand grip to shoulders in order to do such tasks as lifting and moving product and materials
• On a daily basis you may be required to climb stairs or ladders in order to perform such tasks as remove or place products into and from a storage area
• Frequently required to stoop to avoid an overhead obstruction, kneel or crouch to remove or place products to and from a storage areas or similar tasks
• Vision demands predominantly for safety reasons include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth and ability to adjust focus
• Thorough knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures while using chemicals, power tools, hand tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of proper lifting techniques
• Ability to operate equipment and tools
• Ability to use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely
• Understanding of building codes.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices and Safety Data Sheets
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions.
• Ability to perform work independently.
• Must be comfortable working on roofs and elevated lift equipment.
• Must be comfortable traveling with a company vehicle to any and all Curtis Lumber facilities.
