Senior Tax Manager

We are a growing tax strategy and advisory firm helping business owners and professionals move beyond once-a-year tax preparation and toward proactive, year-round tax planning. Our subscription-based advisory model combines ongoing access to our team, quarterly strategy meetings, tax planning, compliance, and practical guidance designed to help clients make better financial decisions before deadlines arrive. We primarily serve clients within several specialized industries, including healthcare, real estate, skilled trades, childcare, funeral services, churches and nonprofit organizations, clergy, and transportation. As our firm continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Senior Tax Accountant who enjoys both the technical side of tax work and the opportunity to build meaningful client relationships. The Role The Senior Tax Accountant is a full-time, hybrid position based in Burlington, North Carolina. Reporting to the Tax Manager, this individual will manage and review complex individual and business tax engagements while also supporting the firm's expanding tax advisory services. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who wants to do more than prepare returns. You will work directly with clients throughout the year, identify planning opportunities, provide recommendations, and help business owners better understand how tax decisions impact their overall financial picture. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review complex federal and state individual and business tax returns Review tax returns and supporting work prepared by other team members Identify tax planning opportunities and develop proactive recommendations for clients Participate in quarterly and year-round client advisory meetings Analyze financial statements, accounting records, and client data for tax planning purposes Research federal, state, and local tax issues and communicate findings clearly Assist clients with IRS and state tax notices, correspondence, and resolution matters Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations Monitor tax law and regulatory changes that may affect clients Manage multiple client engagements, priorities, and filing deadlines Collaborate with the Tax Manager and other team members to improve internal workflows and processes Mentor and provide guidance to junior accountants, tax preparers, and interns as needed Help strengthen systems and processes that support the firm's continued growth Qualifications 5+ years of accounting and tax experience Strong experience preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns Progressive tax experience within public accounting, tax advisory, or a similar professional services environment Strong knowledge of federal and state income tax regulations Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial statement analysis Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation preferred Strong tax research, analytical, and problem-solving skills High level of accuracy and attention to detail Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to explain complex tax matters in clear, practical terms to clients Comfortable working directly with business owners and professional clients Ability to independently manage multiple engagements and deadlines in a growing firm Experience using Intuit ProConnect Tax strongly preferred IRS correspondence and tax resolution experience is a plus Previous supervisory, review, or mentoring experience preferred What We're Looking For The right candidate is technically strong, organized, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of their work.
