Discover your opportunities at Yale!OverviewThe Associate Director for Academic Administration and Student Affairs is a visible leader in the Dean’s office and serves as a collaborative partner to the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs. The Associate Director leads efforts related to proactive student engagement and Engineering student life and is responsible for the administrative coordination and alignment of the student experience with academic program requirements.They work closely with Department Chairs, DGS, DUS, Program Directors, and the Engineering registrar’s office on advising practices, coordination, delivery of responses to student progression concerns, and facilitating access to appropriate University resources. The Associate Director provides strategic direction in support of the needs of a vibrant student community working closely with faculty, staff and students in all aspects of student affairs including;Facilitate discussions, initiatives and School activities that enhance student life, student development and build community.Coordinate and initiate programs that enhance student academic and professional development, increase retention, and respond to student needs.Serve in advisory capacity and provide financial and programmatic oversight for the activities of Engineering student organizations.Ensure compliance with university regulations and ensure continuity from year to year.Manage the coordination of the Engineering PhD and graduate admissions process. Develop and distribute timelines for admissions processes. Develops best practices documents for graduate admissions and advisor assignments.Maintain schoolwide understanding for, and assist in coordination of, teaching resources encompassing space and equipment including but not limited to the Greenberg Engineering Teaching Labs, school machine shop, and design spaces. Develops guidelines for use of these facilities, and distributes them to faculty members seeking to use these resources in their teaching.Ensure the preparation and timely submission of reports to organizations that accredit and regulate academic programs.Lead the ABET review and accreditation cycle. Supports the preparation of major self-studies of the academic programs for internal and external review. Lead the SEAS annual student prizes and awards process.Plan and execute schoolwide student orientation and commencement events.Participate in student life meetings across the University, and with staff in Yale College, the Provost's Office, Secretary’s Office, and Office of General Counsel; collaborate with external regulatory bodies.Work closely with the Academic Affairs team to manage the production of the Academic Student Handbook, including annual review and update of materials for the Yale Bulletin.Perform other related duties as assigned.Required Skills and Abilities1.Well-developed decision-making, planning, organizational, problem-resolution and leadership skills.2. Solid understanding of academic issues pertinent to engineering education and research; skills, experience, and perspective to encourage and maintain high academic standards and administer academic policies.3. Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills.4. Demonstrated interpersonal, teamwork and partnership skills; ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and peers across the organization.5. Experience with higher education student life; commitment to support teaching, learning, and student success.Preferred Skills and Abilities1.Masters degree in an academic administration or management, or Ph.D. in Engineering2. Administration experience working in Engineering higher education.Principal Responsibilities1. Manages multiple support, information, and guidance programs to develop community among University students.2. Develops the support, information, and guidance programs to meet the specific needs of students in both academic and non-academic areas.3. Assesses and identifies needs of the student community; develops multiple programs and resources to support these needs.4. Promotes student development through individual advising, outreach, resources, and information sessions on assigned programs.5. Develops and ensures adherence to protocol for promoting and publicizing activities and specific elements of assigned programs.6. Directs, trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of a full time student support team assigned to the department.7. Serves as back-up for interviews with new or prospective students; offers information and answers questions about academic and non-academic issues at the University.8. Designs outreach materials such as student employment applications and instructions for supervisors and students; plans public training meetings for University staff and students.9. Participates in and contributes to office projects including development and maintenance of website, departmental meetings, and staff meetings.10. Executes program changes as necessary in cooperation with other student services functions.11. Supervises a staff of exempt and nonexempt employees.12.
