Job Title: Physical Therapist I Profession: Physical Therapist Specialty: Outpatient Duration: Permanent Shift: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Physical Therapist Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) - Within 1 month of hire or transfer (highly preferred) Must-Have: Bachelor’s Degree Description: Primarily works in outpatient settings and may float to acute care. Delegates responsibilities to the Physical Therapist Assistant and Aides. Activities of this position are patient-focused and utilize assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with physical therapy standards, physician orders, and governing policies and procedures. Evaluates the patient’s function by performing formal and informal testing measures to determine skeletal, neurological, respiratory, and cardiovascular status. Develops a goal-specific treatment regime based on assessment data and the patient’s tolerance to carry out the treatment plan as prescribed. Submits a written treatment regime to be included as part of the plan of treatment authorized by and coordinated with the physician. Updates the plan of care as needed to reflect changes in patient status. Co-signs verbal orders received by the Physical Therapist Assistant as necessary. Devises a schedule of treatment, which is frequency and duration specific to be discussed with the patient, family, and/or caregiver, and coordinated with clinical support staff. Educates the patient, family, and/or caregiver regarding pathology or condition, patient alternatives, prognosis, and rationale for treatment through forms of rest, exercise, modalities, and other indicated interventions. Provides supervision for Physical Therapist Assistants, Physical Therapy Aides, Home Health Aides, and students per affiliate and regulatory standards. Recommends adaptive/supportive equipment based on assessment; contacts the appropriate representative or supplier to place orders and assists in securing equipment for patients. Documents the patient/family/caregiver response to treatment and changes in patient condition per documentation policies and/or standards and in compliance with regulatory agencies. Completes daily documentation necessary for procedures per policy and in compliance with regulatory agencies. Provides treatment intervention and demonstrates competence to facilitate or restore optimal functioning specific to the patient care area. Educates patient/family/caregiver in home education programs using relevant and effective teaching methods. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with all internal and external customers to maximize the quality of patient care, including coordination with interdisciplinary team members. Promotes education and development among staff, students, and other healthcare providers using relevant and effective teaching methods. Promotes process improvement. Assists with program development and participates in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings as appropriate. Promotes physical therapy within the service area, participating in and providing community education. Functions as case manager for assigned cases. Demonstrates commitment to the mission as evidenced by customer service, quality of service, and teamwork. Maintains confidentiality of patient and affiliate information in accordance with policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Demonstrates competency in Microsoft Windows. Works independently, demonstrating problem-solving and organizational skills, time management skills, and initiative. Completes mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. Works where exposure to communicable diseases may occur. Uses personal protective equipment correctly. Performs essential job functions with reasonable accommodation. Demonstrates and teaches selected treatment routines to appropriate professional and non-professional individuals. Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief, and death. Ability to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes if required for the position. Able to move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing are necessary, with or without assisted devices. Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes, such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Follows bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements as needed. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, and maintain regular and predictable attendance. Overall dexterity is required, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling. May require repetition of these movements regularly or frequently. Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally lift or carry 21-50 lbs. Frequently lift or carry up to 20 lbs. Constantly lift or carry up to 10 lbs.
