The unit is staffed with board runners, charge nurses, service line coordinators, and ancillary assistance for room turnovers. Type of equipment includes Belmont, ESU, and positioning equipment. The documentation system used is Meditech Expanse. Scheduling requirements involve RN shifts during weekdays and CST shifts on specified weekdays. There is a floating policy that includes moving to main operating rooms as necessary. Patient experience requirements necessitate direct contact with patients, requiring excellent communication skills and a team approach to problem-solving. Candidates should have forward-thinking skills and the ability to proactively plan for potential issues. Advanced skills required include sterile technique, central line setup, art line setup, Belmont setup and operation, and cell saver setup. Procedures performed on the unit include open heart procedures such as CABG, MVR, TVR, AVR, VATS, and vascular procedures. Unit guidelines and policies should be adhered to as specified.
