ARCADIS

Entry-Level Archaeologist

Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets. We are more than 34,000 people, in over 30 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world's most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.

Arcadis is seeking an entry-level Archaeologist to support environmental planning projects (e.g., linear infrastructure projects) within California. Assignments may, on occasion, include work outside of California. In this role, you will conduct archaeological field work for projects at all levels of investigation, including survey, testing excavation and evaluation, site recording, and construction monitoring. In this role, you will also be responsible for preparing technical reports and related documentation.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with a diverse, multidisciplinary team across the U.S. The assignments require excellent time and workload management skills to successfully contribute to a fast-paced and dynamic program.

Arcadis offers a flexible working environment and follows a hybrid work structure. A successful candidate can expect to work remotely and from the office, as needed, based on demands of project and client teams. The ability to travel to various project sites, including overnight travel, will be required (field work expectations may be up to, and occasionally exceed, approximately 50%)

As a Consultant with Arcadis, you will be a key member to drive innovation and build strong technical communities within the Enviro Socio Permitting practice. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a dynamic team and gain experience in a variety of environmental projects, focusing mainly on utility infrastructure, but you will also work with existing staff to support the growth of specific client accounts within California. Your career growth will only be limited by your skills and your passion for success!

As an Archaeologist, you will apply your technical knowledge to support archaeological services over a range of sectors, including linear utilities, oil and gas, mining, rail and transit, and renewable energies. You will be a key cultural resources team member and work as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team. You will be responsible for conducting archaeological fieldwork, including archaeological monitoring, and preparing technical documents.

You will conduct cultural resources surveys, and on occasion may be responsible for managing small field crews, as appropriate, for larger projects. This will require a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. This will also require working in the field under a range of conditions (e.g., rugged and remote locations, weather extremes). Additionally, you will use your excellent technical writing and communications skills to author technical documents and provide survey details and results to project teams.

Required qualifications for the role include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in anthropology/archaeology
  • 1 year of experience in cultural resources management.
  • Demonstrated practical field experience in California.
  • Working knowledge of GPS systems and the collection of field data.
  • Basic knowledge of California tribes, culture areas, and material culture.
  • Basic knowledge of cultural resources management, regulatory requirements, and environmental laws
