Job Title: Production Associate / Machine Operator

Job Description

This role supports a dynamic steel manufacturing facility by operating and maintaining production machinery to produce high-quality steel structural products. The production associate / machine operator ensures safe, efficient, and accurate cutting, measuring, grinding, loading, and material handling activities to meet production standards and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Operate production machinery to cut, measure, and grind steel materials according to specifications and production orders.
• Load and unload steel materials and finished products using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Prepare pallets and organize materials for shipping, ensuring accurate labeling and secure loading.
• Monitor equipment during operation to identify irregularities, make basic adjustments, and maintain consistent product quality.
• Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on machines to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Measure and inspect materials and finished products to confirm they meet quality and dimensional requirements.
• Handle steel structures and components safely in a fabrication environment, following all safety procedures and guidelines.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper storage of tools, materials, and equipment.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet daily production goals and adapt to changing workload demands.
• Follow all company safety policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operating procedures for machinery and forklifts.

Essential Skills

• Experience operating forklifts, including sit-down forklifts, in a production or warehouse environment.
• Hands-on experience with production processes such as cutting, measuring, and grinding metal or similar materials.
• Proficiency in material handling, including loading, unloading, and moving steel products and pallets.
• Ability to operate and monitor machinery safely and efficiently in a manufacturing setting.
• Strong attention to detail when measuring and inspecting materials to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, production orders, and safety procedures.
• Physical ability to work in an outdoor or semi-outdoor fabrication shop environment and handle steel materials.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a steel fabrication or structural steel production environment.
• Familiarity with shipping processes, including preparing pallets and organizing materials for outbound loads.
• Comfort working with grinding tools and other fabrication equipment.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a production team.
• Flexibility to support varying production demands and occasional weekend work as needed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bakersfield, CA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Bakersfield,CA.
