Job Description

Title: Residential Aide (Tier 1)

Location: New York Metropolitan Area

Pay Range: $18.68 – $19.23 per hour (est. $34,000 – $35,000 per year)

Classification: Non-Exempt

Employment Type: Full-time (35 hours per week)

Role Summary: The Residential Aide will be responsible for promoting the mission and values of the organization by assisting clients and monitoring their safety and well-being. They will also help enforce compliant with program rules, policies, and procedures, and ensure the facility represents a secure and respectful living and working environment.

Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:

The Residential Aide will be primarily responsible for the following job duties:

\n
• Remaining diligent and alert while monitoring facility residents and the premises to ensure the security and safety of all.
\n
• Enforcing shelter policies while following staff policies and procedures.
\n
• Performing general administrative functions such as adding detailed notes in communication logs, documenting incidents, and notating resident whereabouts, behaviors and engagement
\n
• Providing compassionate assistance to residents, addressing their questions, and helping to promptly resolve any issues that may arise.
\n
• Monitoring hallways, stairwells, parking lots, sidewalks, cafeterias, and other common areas on a regular basis and/or as needed.
\n
• Strictly adhering to applicable safety, health, fire hazard, and reporting guidelines, policies and procedures.
\n
• Informing appropriate supervisory and maintenance personnel of any immediate safety concerns.
\n
• Interacting with onsite security personnel to promote the safety and well-being of staff and residents.
\n
• Helpling empty, clean and prepare residential units or living areas for new residents (e.g., bag and tag personal property).
\n

Physical Requirements:

\n
• Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and bend over.
\n
• Ability to lift, reach, and handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
\n
• Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
\n
• Ability to travel to different locations within New York City as needed.
\n

Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:

\n
• May be required to work past the end of one’s scheduled shift if not relieved by another staff member or expressly authorized to leave by a supervisor.
\n
• Shifts typically last from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.
\n
• May be required to work weekends and/or holidays.
\n
• This is a men's transitional housing facility for mental health and substance abuse.
\n

Qualifications:

\n
• High School Diploma, General Educational Development (“GED”) Diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
\n
• The following must be obtained by the end of your initial probation:
\n
• Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard for Shelters (”F-02”) or Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters (“F-80”) .
\n
• Food Protection Certificate (also known as a Food Handler’s Certificate) from the NYC Health Academy.
\n
• First-Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (“CPR”) Certification.
\n
• New York State Security Guard License is preferred.
\n
• Prior experience working in a residential facility is preferred.
\n
• Multilingualism is preferred.
\n
• Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries.
\n
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
\n
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
\n
• Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
\n
• Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively.
\n
• Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.
\n
• Must pass drug screening test to be appointed.
\n
• This position may be subject to a series of checks before and/or after appointment.
