Location and Employment Type Location: 2169 West Park Court, Stone Mountain, GA 30087 USA Regular (US Only), Full Time Your Day to Day Life Purpose (Objective) We are looking for an Operations Manager, Microbiology to manage a department, lead supervisors, and ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures during the testing of client samples. Main Activities Develop and maintain systems that ensure proper methodologies are being used in conformance with client requirements. Administer corporate human resource programs relating to recruitment, compensation, training and development, equal employment opportunity, performance appraisal, and employment record documentation. Analyze and interpret data, providing guidance to correct discrepancies before results are released to client service personnel or clients. Ensure corrective actions are documented and follow‑up performed as indicated in Standard Operating Procedures. Support company initiatives and work with other department leaders to implement methods and train others effectively. Communicate emerging client requirements to departmental personnel. Collaborate with internal and external auditors to provide information that ensures quality systems are used. Stay current in food science and related technologies through library resources and peer expertise. Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and other required systems. Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes. Initiate action to prevent or minimize departures from the quality system or test procedures, addressing resource needs and ensuring materials are available. Perform other related duties as needed. Communication Frequent contact with client service personnel to provide results, answer questions, and monitor special projects. Occasional client contact to obtain or provide information and explain procedures. Regular vendor contact to order materials and inquire about new products. Occasional corporate office contact for administrative inquiries and SOP questions. Regular contact with management at other locations for analytical information. Your Profile Knowledge 2‑5 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Master’s degree a plus. Thorough knowledge of microbiology, chemistry, or food science; broad understanding of food science for accurate analysis. General knowledge of LIMS required. Client‑relation skills, proficiency in standard operating methods, and supervisory skills essential. Budgeting, organizational, planning, and supervisory skills needed for efficient department operation. Required Skills Ensure analyses are performed within specified time limits and that results are accurate. Use technical expertise to solve laboratory problems and meet client requests for alternative procedures. Verify all procedures are followed and research new methods. Make independent decisions regarding laboratory operations, schedule personnel, and prioritize analyses. Discuss significant changes with laboratory management before implementation. Provide status reports and manage quality control and sample analysis. Maintain moderate to significant impact on department and company. Management Supervise all departmental personnel. Responsibilities include hiring, developing, providing feedback, evaluating performance, and coordinating laboratory activities with other departments. Work Environment Laboratory setting with controlled lighting and temperature. Safety equipment may be required for fumes or ventilation. Standing position for extended periods. Detect subtle color variations. Protective clothing may be needed for client visits. Overnight travel less than two nights a month for meetings and seminars.
