SENIOR PHYSICIAN (Environmental Toxicology)

Senior Physician

We are pursuing qualified candidates to fill Senior Physician positions within the Department of Public Health. We are looking for licensed physicians that have immediate charge of a small medical section within a larger medical unit of a medical facility or a small program of a medical facility.

Lead evaluation of environmental hazards using advanced expertise in environmental toxicology and exposure assessment, including interpretation of environmental monitoring data, biomonitoring results, and health risk assessments to characterize acute and chronic health risks. Provide expert technical guidance on environmental exposures and associated health outcomes, including rapid assessment of chemical releases, air and water contamination events, and other environmental incidents to inform public health action. Direct risk communication and public notification efforts during environmental hazards and emergencies, including developing clear, actionable messaging for the public, media, and stakeholders, and serving as a subject matter expert in briefings, press interactions, and community meetings. Coordinate with regulatory and partner agencies (e.g., environmental, air quality, and emergency response entities) to align health-based recommendations, support incident response, and ensure integration of public health considerations into regulatory and operational decisions. Develop and implement protocols, policies, and procedures for environmental emergency response, including incident notification, interagency coordination, and post-event public health follow-up, including epidemiologic investigations and exposure tracking. Oversee analysis, reporting, and dissemination of environmental health data, ensuring scientific rigor, timeliness, and accessibility of findings to inform policy, regulatory action, and community protection. Perform administrative and leadership duties, including program planning, and continuous improvement of environmental health response systems, data workflows, and service delivery.

Oversee the maintenance of environmental health records and the preparation of technical reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and readiness for public release and interagency use.

Completion of a residency approved by an American Specialty Board in one or more designated specialties or equivalent training. One (1) year of experience in medical practice, post graduate training, teaching or investigative work. Specialty certification in Medical Toxicology or Occupational and Environmental Medicine or board certification in Preventive Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine including two (2) years of experience in environmental toxicology and exposure assessment within a public health agency or academic setting, including experience in evaluating and responding to environmental hazards and emergency events.

Desirable qualifications include experience applying advanced scientific expertise in environmental toxicology and exposure assessment to evaluate environmental hazards and ensure timely dissemination of accurate, actionable information to the public, media, and stakeholders to prevent or reduce adverse health effects. Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures for coordinated response to toxic environmental emergencies, including incident notification, interagency collaboration, and integration with regulatory partners, and conducting follow-up epidemiologic investigations to assess and mitigate population health impacts. Experience conducting and interpreting human health risk assessments, including evaluation of environmental monitoring, biomonitoring, and exposure pathway data to inform public health decision-making. Experience in environmental and medical toxicology, including assessment of acute and chronic health effects associated with chemical, air, water, and soil exposures. Experience leading or supporting environmental health crisis and emergency risk communication, including public notification, media engagement, and development of clear, health-protective guidance during rapidly evolving incidents. Experience applying epidemiological methods in environmental health response, including study design, exposure characterization, and analysis of health outcomes related to environmental hazards. Experience interpreting and integrating environmental science data (e.g., air monitoring, water quality, soil contamination) to support regulatory decision-making, public health guidance, and cross-agency response. Experience in communicating risk to one or more audiences (e.g., public, media, and/or regulatory partners).
