Job Summary
Position Overview
The Director of Marketing & Communications is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping, elevating, and protecting the public voice of the Jewish Federation of Greater Nashville. This position leads the strategic direction, messaging, branding, and storytelling that advance the Federation’s mission, strengthen community engagement, and support fundraising and programmatic goals.
The Director reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and oversees the full communications ecosystem of the Federation. This includes direct supervision of the Marketing Manager, Observer Editor, Advertising Manager, and Archive Associate, ensuring cohesive, high‑quality, mission‑aligned communications across all platforms.

Through strategic leadership and compelling storytelling, this role strengthens community connection, enhances donor engagement, and elevates the Federation’s impact across Nashville and beyond.

Job Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy aligned with Federation priorities.
- Ensure consistent brand identity, messaging, and visual standards across all departments and platforms.
- Serve as the Federation’s lead communications strategist during sensitive or high‑profile community moments.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Marketing Manager, Observer Editor, Advertising Manager, and Archive Associate.
- Foster a collaborative, creative, and high‑performance team culture.
- Coordinate workflow to ensure timely, accurate, and compelling content across all channels.
Media Relations & Public Affairs
- Serve as the primary media contact for the Federation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national journalists.
- Draft press releases, public statements, op‑eds, and talking points.
- Prepare leadership for interviews and public appearances.
Digital Strategy & Content Development
- Oversee the Federation’s website, social media channels, email marketing, and digital storytelling.
- Ensure content reflects the diversity, vibrancy, and impact of Jewish life in Nashville.
- Use analytics to guide strategy and optimize engagement.
Marketing Campaigns & Creative Direction
- Lead marketing strategy for major events and initiatives, including the Annual Campaign, JCRC programs, Yoms, and community celebrations.
- Oversee design, branding, and production of print and digital materials.
- Partner with departments to ensure communications support program goals and donor engagement.
Observer Oversight
- Provide strategic oversight for the Jewish Observer.
- Support the Editor in planning content, managing deadlines, and maintaining journalistic standards.
- Coordinate with the Advertising Manager to ensure revenue‑generating opportunities align with editorial integrity.
Crisis Communications
- Lead rapid‑response communications during emergencies, security incidents, or public‑affairs issues affecting the Jewish community.
- Coordinate messaging with the CEO, Security Director, JCRC, and national partners.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a visible ambassador for the Federation’s mission and values.
- Build relationships with synagogues, agencies, donors, and community partners.
- Provide communications support and consultation to partner organizations when appropriate.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, or public affairs.
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff and managing complex workflows.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
- Strong understanding of digital strategy, social media, and analytics.
- Experience with media relations and crisis communications.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Knowledge of Jewish communal life, Israel, and issues affecting Jewish communities is strongly preferred
- This position requires some availability during evenings and weekends.
