Junior Java Developer Test Engineer

The NC FAST Junior Java Developer/Test Engineer will support the development, testing, and maintenance of Java-based applications within the NC Families Accessing Services through Technology (NC FAST) system. This role focuses on writing and executing manual and automated test scripts, assisting in software development, debugging, and collaborating with senior developers to ensure high-quality software delivery in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Responsibilities:

• Write and execute manual test scripts and perform manual testing activities.
• Create and execute automated test scripts using TOSCA.
• Develop and run junit and jmockit test scripts to support unit testing.
• Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining Java applications and features.
• Write clean, efficient, testable, and well-documented code following industry standards.
• Collaborate with senior developers and cross-functional teams to implement solutions.
• Debug and resolve software defects to ensure application stability.
• Participate in code reviews to improve code quality.
• Work with databases, including writing and executing SQL queries.
• Contribute to system documentation and continuous process improvements.
• Stay current with new testing and Java technologies, trends, and best practices.

• Minimum 3 years experience developing and executing automated test scripts in TOSCA.
• Minimum 3 years experience with HP test tools including Test Director/Quality Center 9.0+ and QTP 9.5+.
• Minimum 3 years experience testing web, GUI, client/server, and database applications.
• Experience with requirements analysis and automated test case/script development (3 years).
• Experience with automated testing, test planning, and test case review (3 years).
• At least 2 years experience in Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe).
• At least 2 years coding experience using Java/J2EE.
• At least 2 years experience developing and testing using junit and jmockit.
• At least 2 years experience executing SQL for validation and testing.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision.
• Experience working in a rapidly changing environment.

• Experience using NeoLoad and qTest (minimum 1 year).
• Knowledge of FNS/SNAP program policy guidelines (2 years preferred).
• Experience testing Curam products (1 year preferred).
• Experience testing health and human services projects (1 year preferred).
• Good oral and written communication skills for daily interaction with developers and analysts.
• Experience navigating UNIX platforms (1 year preferred).
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies beyond basics.
• Basic knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Exposure to Spring Framework, Hibernate, or related Java technologies.

• All work must be performed on State premises.
• Absences greater than two weeks require prior approval and contact information must be provided.
• Vendor must notify if any portion of work is outsourced outside the country.
• Vendor must disclose subcontracting status at time of submission.
• Some travel may be required.
• Candidate must be available for immediate hire and commit to the duration of the assignment.

• Work schedule will follow standard State working hours as required by the project.
• Position duration is from September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2027.
• On-site, in-person work is mandatory.
