Molecular Biologist for AI Training, UK

Role Overview

Apply hands-on molecular biology expertise to help develop foundational generative AI models. You will strengthen the quality of AI training data by bringing practical sequence-design experience across DNA and RNA constructs to model evaluation and task development.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with research and engineering teams to identify gaps in molecular biology reasoning and improve model performance.
• Create challenging, domain-relevant tasks and accurate, well-documented reference solutions covering PCR, qPCR and cloning primers; plasmids and expression vectors; CRISPR gRNA and sgRNA; mRNA and RNA constructs; and HDR or repair templates.
• Evaluate molecular biology tasks and model outputs against expert-quality solutions, providing clear written feedback on correctness, rigor and biological reasoning.
• Develop quality guidelines and scoring rubrics for sequence design, including guide and target selection, homology-arm length, primer melting temperature and specificity, codon optimization, and regulatory elements.
• Collaborate with other subject-matter experts to maintain consistent, accurate training data.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, synthetic biology, bioengineering, or a related life-science field. A PhD is strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience designing nucleic acid constructs before experimental execution, including several of the following: primers, plasmids and vectors, gRNA and sgRNA, mRNA, and HDR or repair templates.
• Experience with associated cloning strategies, including Gibson, Golden Gate, Gateway, and restriction-based cloning, as well as codon optimization.
• Strong peer-reviewed publication record, with emphasis on first-author work in recognized venues such as Nature and related journals, Cell, eLife, Nucleic Acids Research, PNAS, and EMBO Journal. Include publication links with your application.
• Demonstrated career progression, strong written communication, and the ability to explain design decisions clearly and precisely.
• Experience in AI training, model evaluation, or data annotation is preferred.

Work Terms

• Remote role available to candidates in the United Kingdom.
• Hourly W-2 employment through the appropriate employing entity, with potential placement on an AI lab team.
• Reliable weekday commitment of at least 20 hours per week is required.

Compensation

Hourly compensation ranges from 70 to 105.
