Litigation Legal Assistant

A Litigation Legal Assistant provides administrative and legal support to attorneys handling civil or criminal litigation matters. This role involves managing case files, preparing legal documents, coordinating court filings, maintaining calendars and deadlines, communicating with clients, and supporting trial preparation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Case Management
    • Organize and maintain physical and electronic case files
    • Track litigation deadlines, court dates, and filing requirements
    • Manage document production and discovery materials
    • Monitor case status and update attorneys regularly
  • Legal Document Preparation
    • Draft, proofread, and format pleadings, motions, subpoenas, discovery requests and responses, correspondence, trial binders
    • File documents with state and federal courts, including e-filing systems
  • Calendar & Scheduling
    • Coordinate attorney calendars
    • Schedule depositions, hearings, mediations, and client meetings
    • Arrange travel and logistics for trials or court appearances
  • Client & Court Communication
    • Serve as a point of contact for clients, opposing counsel, courts, and vendors
    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive legal information
    • Provide status updates and gather documents from clients
  • Trial Preparation
    • Assist with exhibit preparation and witness coordination
    • Prepare trial notebooks and exhibits
    • Coordinate courtroom technology and logistics
  • Administrative Support
    • Manage billing entries and expense reports
    • Handle mail, scanning, and document management systems
    • Assist with timekeeping and attorney administrative tasks
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience: 2+ years of litigation support or legal assistant experience preferred
  • Experience with civil litigation procedures and court rules
Skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, legal case management software, e-filing systems, document management platforms
Knowledge
  • Familiarity with state and federal court procedures, legal terminology, discovery processes, trial preparation practices
Preferred Qualities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Team-oriented mindset with ability to work independently
