Patient Safety Supervisor

DESCRIPTION The Quality & Patient Safety Department is proud to support the clinicians at the bedside who make a difference in patient care every day. This department shares the extraordinary work being done throughout the health system to measure quality outcomes, improve processes of care, and ensure patient safety. The team is here to provide data and facilitate change to accomplish clinical excellence and outstanding external ratings. The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Supervisor oversees daily QI operations, resolves system issues, advises on workflows, and serves as a subject matter expert while ensuring staff remain informed and compliant with evolving policies and regulatory requirements. The role partners with leadership to address operational challenges, implement new QI initiatives, and oversee data collection, reporting, and quality metrics to identify opportunities for process improvement. The supervisor manages staff performance, hiring, evaluations, corrective actions, and professional development, and supports ongoing training and educational resources. They guide teams collaborating with clinical departments to implement patient care quality strategies, provide clinicians with support on quality structures, data analysis, and abstraction tools, and lead or participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop performance indicators and ensure accurate data collection and reporting systems are in place. In performing these duties, the Supervisor exercises the utmost discretion in handling sensitive information including employee and student records, patient data, financial information, strategic plans, and other confidential or proprietary materials, and limits access strictly to individuals with a legitimate business need to know. They are responsible for safeguarding all sensitive information in accordance with organizational policies, privacy laws, and secure data-handling practices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in nursing (BSN) or other health discipline. Or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience. Five (5+) or more years of relevant experience such as leading a TJC Stroke Coordinator program, Patient Safety Program, or Spine program. Demonstrated ability to supervise a team effectively and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with quality improvement. Strong knowledge of clinical QI standards and other regulatory requirements, QI systems and tools, internal and external regulations and procedures, clinical chart review and abstraction, analytics, and reporting. Solid knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions. Solid interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with all levels of management and staff, consultants, and outside agencies. Demonstrated ability to effectively convey complex clinical and technical information both verbally and in writing, the ability to train and mentor subordinates, and to prepare and present various reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals. Demonstrated knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in quality and performance improvement processes. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Advanced degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field. Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a clinical quality improvement setting. Experience with healthcare regulatory agencies, accreditation standards, and performance measurement programs. Experience leading multidisciplinary clinical teams. Expertise in the development and implementation of complex projects, including multidisciplinary teams, to facilitate change throughout the health system. Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $123,000 - $237,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $58.91 - $113.89 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
