Emergency Management Specialist

Overview The Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management seeks an Emergency Management Specialist 2 to lead the development, implementation, and management of a statewide exercise program ensuring readiness across Alaska. The role involves overseeing, coordinating, and evaluating jurisdictional exercise activities across all Alaska boroughs and communities. The position is on-site at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson with potential for up to two remote workdays per week and requires collaboration with multiple divisions with a commitment to emergency preparedness and community resilience. Responsibilities Lead the development, implementation, and management of a statewide emergency exercise program to ensure readiness across Alaska. Oversee, coordinate, and evaluate jurisdictional exercise activities across all Alaska boroughs and communities. Work on-site at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson with potential for up to two remote workdays per week. Collaborate with multiple divisions to support emergency preparedness and community resilience efforts. Qualifications One year of entry-level professional experience mitigating against, preparing for, responding to, or recovering from emergencies, disasters, or terrorist events; OR two years creating contingency plans. Valid Alaska driver’s license required. Willingness to travel to remote field sites via small aircraft, boats, and helicopters, and to work in varying weather conditions. Writing skills with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Computer skills with proficiency in software applications and databases.
