Monitor Technician

Monitor Technician – PRN at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital. Job Summary Performs set up of cardiac telemetry, patient preparation, monitoring by computer or trans telephonically, evaluation of cardiac rhythms with notification of life‑threatening arrhythmias, creation and typing of over read reports, processing of records, ECG performance, and hooking up Holter and cardiac event monitors while maintaining hospital service standards. Key Responsibilities Perform telemetry monitoring with patient preparation, electrode placement, and instruction. Correct problems that result in poor quality signals. Plan work steps and coordinate supplies and support. Perform real‑time arrhythmia monitoring and interpret with Provide full disclosure ECG reports and over read reports. Report life‑threatening arrhythmias to appropriate staff. Perform ECGs when the ECG department is closed, maintaining quality Hook up Holter and cardiac event monitors. Prepare and type over read reports on the same day. Maintain the Heart Station, handle record keeping, enter charges, check supplies and battery voltages. Practice safety and infection control, applying universal precautions. Provide service excellence to patients, families, and staff. Incorporate performance improvement into daily work and assist in developing departmental PI plans. Provide age‑appropriate care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Additional Duties Perform STAT electrocardiograms when the ECG department is closed. Provide backup coverage for ECG and Holter departments. Process and type over read reports. Assist with billing information via Meditech System. Qualifications High School or equivalent. 0–6 month training or experience in arrhythmia monitoring or related post‑high school vocational/specialized training. Demonstrated teamwork skills and ability to collaborate effectively. Work Conditions May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Handles emergency or crisis situations. May involve irregular hours and occasional prolonged standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and transferring patients. Requires manual dexterity and mobility for lifting supplies and equipment. Physical Requirements Occasional prolonged standing and walking; occasionally lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients; lifts supplies and equipment; requires manual dexterity and mobility; occasionally reaches, stoops, bends, kneels, crouches, or pulls >100 lb.
