Release Engineer (RHEL Migration)

Role Overview

We are seeking a strong Release Engineer/Platform Engineer to support an enterprise infrastructure modernization initiative focused on migrating environments from RHEL 7 to RHEL 9.

The ideal candidate will have 57 years of overall experience in Linux/Platform Engineering environments, including 5+ years of strong hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration, engineering, and modernization initiatives, with specific exposure to RHEL 9.

This role will focus on platform modernization, operating system migration, containerization, CI/CD automation, package engineering, and security/vulnerability remediation.

Key Responsibilities

1. OS Migration & Package Engineering

• Execute migration of applications and services from RHEL 7 to RHEL 9.
• Identify and resolve binary compatibility and library dependency issues.
• Build and compile open-source packages from source code.
• Troubleshoot package, build, and dependency-related issues.
• Manage the lifecycle of RPM packages.
• Support platform modernization and application compatibility activities.

2. Containerization & Orchestration

• Refactor legacy container workflows from Docker to Podman.
• Architect, support, and maintain Rancher-managed Kubernetes environments.
• Support migration to RHEL 9 Universal Base Images (UBI).
• Troubleshoot containerization and orchestration issues across environments.

3. Automation & CI/CD

• Develop and maintain Jenkins CI/CD pipelines using Groovy shared libraries.
• Develop automation tools, utilities, and API integrations using Python.
• Build and maintain scalable, code-based CI/CD pipelines.
• Automate platform deployment, configuration, and release processes.

4. Vulnerability & Security Management

• Review vulnerability scan reports and remediate identified CVEs.
• Ensure compliance with RHEL 9 security standards and benchmarks.
• Perform security hardening and vulnerability remediation.
• Maintain secure software supply chain practices.
• Work with engineering and security teams to resolve platform security issues.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), particularly RHEL 9.
• Strong Linux administration, engineering, and troubleshooting experience.
• Hands-on experience with RHEL 7 to RHEL 9 migration/modernization.
• Strong Python development and scripting experience.
• Experience with Groovy scripting and Jenkins DSL/shared libraries.
• Strong Jenkins CI/CD experience.
• Experience with Docker and Podman.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and Rancher.
• Experience with Make, CMake, and GCC build systems.
• Experience building and managing RPM packages.
• Experience with vulnerability remediation, CVE management, and security hardening.
• Strong experience with Ansible for large-scale OS configuration and automation.
• Understanding of Linux libraries, dependencies, binaries, and package management.

Important Candidate Requirements

• Strong hands-on engineering depth is critical.
• Please avoid candidates with purely support or system administration profiles.
• Candidates must have practical experience in Platform Engineering, CI/CD, Containerization, and OS Modernization.
• Strong RHEL migration experience, particularly RHEL 7 to RHEL 9, is highly preferred.
• Good communication skills are required due to client-facing interviews.
