Nurse Practitioner, Family or Adult-Gerontology - Per Diem

Position Summary Boston Medical Center is seeking a Family or Adult‑Gerontology Nurse Practitioner for its inpatient program at its 82‑bed behavioral health hospital in Brockton, MA. The Nurse Practitioner will work within multidisciplinary teams in the inpatient psychiatry and Clinical Stabilization Services (CSS) programs, providing integrated medical and behavioral health care to patients with mental health and substance use disorders. Essential Responsibilities / Duties Provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to patients and families according to established protocols. Prioritize patient care to manage time, resources, and supplies cost‑effectively. Perform physical examinations and preventive health measures tailored to patient needs. Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess clinical problems and health care needs. Develop and arrange appropriate plans of care and follow‑up, including medication for opioid, alcohol, and tobacco use disorders, treatment of withdrawal complications, and management of complications such as cellulitis, abscesses, hypertension, and HIV risk. Document patient care findings in the medical record. Maintain an interdisciplinary approach to planning and communicating patient care information with physicians and other health professionals. Evaluate outcomes of patient care and revise care plans as necessary. Seek and provide consultative services when required. Incorporate health maintenance, prevention, and promotion into daily practice through education and counseling. Demonstrate awareness of community resources and assist staff, patients, and families in using them. Provide appropriate care for age groups served and notify supervisors when patients outside these groups are present. Assist in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of nurse practitioner guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols. Show leadership in problem‑solving and directing personnel in the assigned clinical area. Maintain knowledge of legislation impacting health care delivery and the role of the nurse practitioner. Serve on nursing and hospital committees as requested and refer information to departmental and hospital committees. Identify personal learning needs and pursue current knowledge and competency in clinical practice. Educate patients, families, and professionals through educational materials, in‑services, lectures, and publications. Track outcomes and data reportable to funders. Lead or participate in quality improvement projects or research studies based on findings. Participate in patient care research appropriate to educational background and experience. Perform other duties as needed. Job Requirements Education: Master’s Degree from a nurse practitioner education program accredited by a Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing‑recognized national accreditation body. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current advanced practice certification by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing for an adult NP (including family or adult‑gerontology); current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in Massachusetts; valid DEA certificate and MA Controlled Substances certificate or eligibility. Experience: Two years as a Nurse Practitioner or five years in nursing, with preference for candidates with strong interest in serving underserved populations. Knowledge and Skills: Demonstrated interest in treating a culturally and socio‑economically diverse patient population; experience working with individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders, including medication‑treated opioid use disorders. Compensation & Benefits Compensation Range: $104,000.00 – $151,000.00.
