Join our community and experience Emerson College!The Admission Counselor position reports to the Director of Undergraduate Recruitment and will assist with recruiting, selecting, and enrolling a dynamic class of first-year students to the college. In addition, this position will attend admission events and will travel domestically for a period of up to eight weeks to visit high schools, conduct information sessions, attend college fairs, and build relationships with counselors. This is an important role that requires the ability to engage well with prospective students and to detail the positive attributes of the college and has a direct bearing on the college’s revenue figures.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIESRecruit students for the college, assisting with meeting the college’s admissions and revenue targetsCommunicate with and advise prospective students as necessaryProvide counseling to parents, applicants, and guidance counselors regarding the college’s admission policies and proceduresMaintain communication with prospective students and family members, answering questions and scheduling meetings as required to provide them with the information they require about campus life, programming, tuition, and courses of studyReview and evaluate undergraduate admissions applications based on the college’s recruiting goals and standards, accepting, deferring, waitlisting, or rejecting students as appropriatePlan and execute spring and fall recruitment schedules, events, and travel, visiting high schools, attending college fairs, and hosting one-on-one meetings in an assigned geographic areaMeet with walk-in visitors, handle phone calls, and give presentations to guests who are taking a tour of the collegeParticipate in projects as requiredAttend and assist at events and at the Visitor Center as requiredServe as liaison to on-campus departments and off-campus organizations to help increase the number and quality of applicationsPerform other miscellaneous duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required1-3 years of experience working in college admissions, orientation, residence life, or other student-facing office, either as a student or in a professional capacity, requiredValid driver’s license required1 year of previous professional experience in college admissions preferredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail requiredSuperior interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to present information in public as well as in one-on-one situationsGood computer skills and the ability to learn new computer software easilySelf-starter with excellent organizational and problem-solving skillsStrong customer service skills and the ability to engage with prospective students and parents in a patient and positive mannerSound independent judgmentAbility to plan and coordinate schedules and eventsAvailability to travel domestically extensively requiredAbility to attend admissions events on evenings and weekends requiredKnowledge of Emerson College programs and services preferredPHYSICAL ABILITIES – Activities commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
