Facility Admissions Coordinator, Bowie

Work Schedule M-F 3:00pm-11:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays. General Summary Under general supervision, performs scheduling, registration, pre‑admission processing, wayfinding, and other administrative duties while adhering to department‑specific standards for data entry and patient selection. Additional duties include verification of insurance benefit eligibility, insurance pre‑certification and authorization, and estimates creation and/or finalization. Job Requirements Shift: Evening. Works with the care teams and revenue cycle to identify and eliminate barriers to access, reimbursement, and affordable care. Provides education to patients and families regarding the financial clearance process, and offers information about estimated cost of services and financial assistance opportunities. Performs specific administrative and Admission, Discharge and Transfer (ADT) functions in multiple clinics and registration areas within the institution. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks Serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing customer service for Patient Access/Administrative Services areas and ensuring a customer‑focused, quality‑conscious work climate. Primary functions include interpersonal skills, data collection, assessment of situations, and assistance in developing solutions to achieve excellence in customer service while ensuring financial viability. Collects and verifies patient and insurance demographics, verifies benefits and coverage by reviewing benefits in Epic, provides cost estimates, obtains pre‑certifications and/or pre‑notifications, collects co‑pay and deposits, and provides financial assistance. Provides wayfinding to clinics, ensuring safe and efficient navigation to appointments. Maintains regulatory and functional knowledge of registration information required, ensuring timely and accurate reporting/billing; obtains required signatures and performs clerical duties as necessary. Educates patients regarding insurance coverage and hospital/physician billing requirements, communicating proper procedures. Communicates coverage issues to service areas; works with patients and staff to resolve. Ensures accuracy and completion of paperwork prior to filing admissions; contacts physician/clinical staff for incomplete registration paperwork; distributes admission documents if required. Maintains department scheduling templates for applicable providers in outpatient locations, ensuring appropriate scheduling utilization. Makes consistent contact with Care Management and Social Work teams to ensure required information for reimbursement and that pre‑admission and pre‑certification requirements are followed. Assists supervisor with training new admitting staff by demonstrating department operating processes and procedures. Education and Experience Completion of a high school diploma or GED is required. Certification and memberships to local organizations such as AAHAM, NAHAM, etc. preferred. One year of clerical, customer service, or receptionist experience, preferably in healthcare, required; two years preferred.
