Description The Tisch Cancer Center at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai seeks an accomplished physician-scientist to serve as Head, Section of Thoracic Medical Oncology. This individual will provide visionary leadership for a comprehensive academic program spanning lung cancer prevention, early detection, precision diagnosis, neoadjuvant and advanced therapeutics, survivorship, and translational research. The leader will have the opportunity to build one of the nation's leading thoracic oncology programs by integrating outstanding clinical care with innovative laboratory and translational science. The successful candidate will lead a highly collaborative multidisciplinary program bringing together experts in medical oncology, thoracic surgery, pulmonology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, immunology, genomics, aging biology, artificial intelligence, and computational biology to accelerate scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes. Institutional priorities include advancing lung cancer immunoprevention, cancer interception, early detection, neoadjuvant and perioperative clinical trials, and precision immunotherapy, supported by Mount Sinai's internationally recognized strengths in pulmonology, precision immunology, cancer biology. biomarker discovery, and translational clinical research. Responsibilities Develop and execute a bold strategic vision for the Center for Thoracic Medical Oncology, aligned with the mission of the Tisch Cancer Center. Build and lead a world-class multidisciplinary thoracic oncology program spanning prevention, early detection, clinical care, translational research, and therapeutic innovation. Recruit, mentor, and retain outstanding physician-scientists, clinical investigators, and faculty. Foster collaborations across medical oncology, thoracic surgery, radiation oncology, pulmonology, pathology, radiology, immunology, computational biology, and basic science. Represent the program in institutional planning and national scientific initiatives. Clinical Care Maintain an active clinical practice in thoracic medical oncology. Ensure the delivery of outstanding, evidence-based, patient-centered care across the continuum from lung cancer screening and early-stage disease to advanced thoracic malignancies. Expand multidisciplinary clinics, tumor boards, and integrated care pathways across the Mount Sinai Health System. Research and Translational Science Lead or participate in innovative translational and clinical research in thoracic oncology. Develop research programs focused on lung cancer biology, immunoprevention, cancer interception, early detection, precision immunotherapy, neoadjuvant therapeutic strategies, biomarker discovery, and the impact of aging on cancer development and therapeutic response. Foster close collaboration between laboratory investigators and clinical researchers to accelerate translation of scientific discoveries into clinical practice. Expand a robust portfolio of investigator-initiated, cooperative group, and industry-sponsored clinical trials. Leverage Mount Sinai's strengths in precision immunology, genomics, single-cell and spatial technologies, AI, and longitudinal immune profiling to develop next-generation biomarker-driven studies. Pursue extramural funding from NIH, foundations, and industry partners to support innovative research programs. Clinical Trials Lead the development of innovative early-phase and late-phase clinical trials with particular emphasis on: neoadjuvant and perioperative therapies; immunoprevention and cancer interception; biomarker-driven precision medicine; novel immunotherapies and targeted therapies. Education and Mentorship Mentor junior faculty, fellows, residents, and students pursuing careers in thoracic oncology and translational cancer research. Contribute to educational programs that foster the next generation of physician-scientists. Qualifications Required MD or MD/PhD with board certification in Medical Oncology or another relevant clinical specialty. Demonstrated excellence in thoracic oncology research, including clinical, translational, or laboratory-based investigation. Outstanding record of peer-reviewed publications and scholarly achievement. Demonstrated leadership experience directing a clinical, translational, or research program. Commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration and team science. Preferred Fellowship training in Medical Oncology/Hematology-Oncology. Experience leading investigator-initiated and multicenter clinical trials. Track record of sustained extramural funding from NIH, foundations, or industry. Expertise in translational immuno-oncology, cancer prevention, early detection, or biomarker development. Established national or international reputation in thoracic oncology. About the Tisch Cancer Center (TCC) The Mount Sinai Tisch Cancer Institute is an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center that is committed to transforming cancer care through excellence in patient care, scientific discovery, education, and innovation. TCC provides exceptional infrastructure for translational research and clinical investigation, fostering collaboration across oncology, immunology, genomics, imaging, computational biology, and precision medicine. The leader will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with internationally recognized programs, including the Marc and Jennifer Lipschultz Precision Immunology Institute (PrIISM), the Human Immune Monitoring Center, and Mount Sinai's expanding programs in cancer immunotherapy, immunoprevention, and clinical trial innovation. Reporting Relationship This position reports directly to the Director of the Tisch Cancer Center and Chief, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Mount Sinai Health System. Compensation range from375K to 475K (not including bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits). Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialties, historical productivity, historical collections, and hospital/community need. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of the range, and in certain circumstances, may wind up being outside of the listed salary range. The salary range listed is for full-time employment and does not include bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits.
