The Office of the State Public Defender (OSPD) is one of the top organizations in the nation specializing in the delivery of indigent criminal defense. OSPD operates as an independent agency within the Judicial Branch of Colorado State Government with nearly 1,000 dedicated employees. The mission of OSPD is to defend and protect the rights, liberties, and dignity of those accused of crimes who cannot afford to retain counsel.

The position purpose and objectives of this paralegal role involve supporting divisions, units, cases, and clients under the direction of a defense attorney. Primary duties and responsibilities include managing and organizing discovery, reviewing and summarizing discovery, researching legal issues, tracking case status and timelines, providing support for hearings or trials, drafting and responding to correspondence, and performing administrative tasks.
