Job Description

This role operates and sets up horizontal CNC mills, specifically Makino machines with Fanuc controllers, in a low-volume, high-mix environment. You will perform frequent setups throughout the day, run multiple CNC machines, and support related machining operations while following established procedures and quality standards. Programs are auto-loaded by engineering, allowing you to focus on precise setup, operation, and inspection of precision metal parts.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate horizontal CNC mills, specifically Makino machines with Fanuc controllers, across multiple shifts.
• Perform frequent machine setups throughout the day in a low-volume, high-mix production environment.
• Operate multiple CNC machines and related equipment to produce precision metal parts according to established procedures.
• Perform basic setup and operation of additional machinery as needed to support machining operations.
• Carry out manual material removal and sub-assembly tasks to support production flow.
• Follow detailed work instructions to maintain production efficiency, accuracy, and process adherence.
• Interpret engineering blueprints and apply basic GD&T knowledge to ensure parts meet specifications.
• Perform first-piece inspections and verify that initial parts meet all dimensional and quality requirements.
• Use calipers and various gauges to inspect finished products and confirm compliance with quality standards.
• Record and maintain production and quality data in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Troubleshoot basic machining issues and make appropriate machine adjustments and tooling changes to maintain product quality.
• Perform changeovers efficiently between different jobs and setups throughout the shift.
• Monitor machine operation and tooling condition, and communicate issues promptly to appropriate personnel.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures while operating CNC mills and other equipment.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC mills, specifically horizontal Makino machines with Fanuc controllers.
• Strong CNC setup experience, including frequent changeovers and multiple setups per day.
• Ability to operate multiple CNC machines and related machining equipment simultaneously.
• Proficiency using calipers and various gauges for in-process and final inspections.
• Ability to interpret engineering blueprints and apply basic GD&T concepts.
• Experience performing first-piece inspections to validate part conformance before running production.
• Skill in performing basic machine adjustments and tooling changes to maintain quality and productivity.
• Capability to follow detailed work instructions and standard operating procedures accurately.
• Familiarity with machining processes such as milling and basic lathe or machine operation.
• Comfort working with Fanuc controllers on CNC machines.
• Ability to record and maintain production and quality data accurately in line with SOP requirements.

Shift:

This position primarily operates on 2nd shift, Monday through Thursday from 3:24 p.m. to 1:54 a.m., with overtime as needed on Fridays/weekends. Mandatory training for the first two weeks runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $44.00/hr.
