About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro Med-Surg Acute Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active Illinois license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Level 1 trauma experience, previous travel experience, prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit Description: Unit has 54 beds with two semi-private rooms. Patient ratios for day shift are 1:4-5 and for night shift are 1:5-6. Common diagnoses include stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, head injuries, and other neuroscience conditions, with some medical overflow. RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin titrated based on PTT. There is a charge nurse present 24/7 who does not take assignments unless necessary. A house supervisor is also available 24/7. There are nurse aides/patient care techs on the unit with ratios of 1:9-10 during the day and evening, and 1:10-12 at night. RNs may troubleshoot respiratory equipment but primarily use high-flow for stable patients. Telemetry monitoring is house-wide, and nurses are not required to read strips. Shifts are worked as 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend and holiday required. There is no call or standby requirement for RNs. Floating may occur to various units within the facility, adhering to skills competency. Tattoos must be covered while on duty, and only ear piercings are allowed. Orientation includes both general and unit-specific training for new staff.
