What to Expect Tesla's Bay Area Prototype Fabrication Shop is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Fabricator to join the team and contribute to Tesla's mission. The Prototype Fabrication Team provides engineers and technicians across the organization with complex and critical fabricated components and assemblies to meet the most aggressive program objectives. Through close collaboration with a world‑class team of fellow fabricators, machinists, engineers, and leadership, we enhance the design of systems and products from concept through production by bringing intangible ideas to the physical world. As a Prototype Fabricator, you will contribute to a range of projects from concept and pre‑production vehicles, energy systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other future‑facing initiatives. What You’ll Do Efficiently plan workflow, prep materials, and fabricate simple to complex components and assemblies Welding, TIG, MIG, CMT, in a variety of positions and materials Machining, set up and operation of manual lathe, manual mill, and measurement tools Sheetmetal, program and operate Waterjet, Lasers, CNC Press Brake, and manual equipment Read, interpret, and build to 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, weld symbols and GD&T Proactively track, document, and provide direct feedback with clear communication to management, engineers, and other fabricators on design, process, project status and outcomes Provide feedback to engineers and management on process and design improvements Identify, present, plan, and implement shop improvements Maintain shop equipment and keep your workplace clean and organized Perform all assignments in a safe manner while adhering to security policies What You’ll Bring 5+ years of experience in Fabrication environment Proficiency with TIG, MIG, Mill, Lathe, Forklift, common shop equipment, and a variety of hand tools Basic CAD skills with ability to load and interrogate models and assemblies Excellent communication skills with ability to develop and present technical information through verbal, email, text, phone, Microsoft Office suite, and other digital communication platforms Ability to remain positive and focused in demanding scenarios under tight deadlines Ability to learn and quickly gain proficiency with shop software (waterjet, laser, press brake, CAD) Excellent mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, analytical skills, and time management Ability to work efficiently and effectively both independently and as a team with minimal supervision Flexibility with ability to work overtime on short notice based on strategic needs of the company Compensation and Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full‑time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family‑building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High‑Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short‑term and long‑term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back‑up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $27.52 - $55.80/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
