Tools Design Engineer

Role: Tools Design Engineer Client: Top Aerospace and Defense company Location: Palmdale, CA Clearance: Active Secret with investigation within the last 5 years Education: Bachelors in STEM Work Schedule: 4/10 Rate: $80 to $110 per hour (W2 contract with limited benefits, No PTO - ever hour worked is an hour paid) Job Description You will be a Tool Design Engineer onsite in Palmdale, CA, supporting the design and development of special tools and fixtures for assembly and fabrication operations. Our team is responsible for creating innovative solutions to manufacture aircraft components and final assemblies, while ensuring compliance with government regulations and company requirements. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design, fabricate, and implement special tools and fixtures, utilizing CAD software such as CATIA V5. Create detailed tool design CAD models and drawings, and provide shop floor support to resolve technical and manufacturing issues. Provide support to tooling vendors during the fabrication phase, see their use into the production system and ensure configuration control is maintained. Perform root cause analysis of tooling issues, implement corrective actions, act as a technical checker for tool designs developed by team members/vendors, and work to drive continuous improvement. A combination of education and experience may be considered equivalent to the degree requirement on a case‑by‑case evaluation. Basic Qualifications Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) experience. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, specifications and diagrams. Experience interpreting metrology data. Experience with CATIA V5 software. Tool design and fabrication support experience. Desired Skills Previous hands‑on mechanical experience, jig building experience, and computer aided design experience on any 3D drawing and analysis software package. Previous tool design experience for composite part families and processes, from layup fixtures to trim fixtures, bond fixtures, and assembly fixtures. Exposure to root cause analysis and continuous improvement concepts. Exposure to vendor support. Experience researching and validating disposition tooling requests from vendors on tooling issues. Experience with CATIA V4 and V5 software. Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
