About FADP
Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (FADP) is Florida's statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to ending capital punishment and promoting safer, more effective alternatives to execution. We educate the public, mobilize communities, support people directly impacted by the death penalty, and advocate for policies that advance justice, dignity, and public safety.
Florida is currently the busiest executing state in the nation. As executions accelerate and policymakers continue to expand the use of capital punishment, this is a pivotal moment for the movement to end the death penalty. FADP is seeking a passionate, strategic, and action-oriented Community Organizer to help build grassroots power across Florida and engage communities in the fight for a more just future.
Position Summary
The Community Organizer will report directly to the Executive Director and play a central role in expanding FADP's statewide organizing efforts. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, building coalitions, mobilizing communities, and turning ideas into action.
This is not a desk-bound position. The Organizer will spend significant time in communities across Florida, developing relationships, supporting local leaders, organizing events and actions, and helping execute advocacy campaigns. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can work independently, adapt quickly to changing circumstances, identify opportunities to advance FADP's mission without requiring extensive supervision, and feel energized by building something rather than inheriting it. This role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to shape organizing strategy at a critical moment in Florida's death penalty landscape.
The position may be based anywhere in Florida, though candidates located in Orlando, Tampa Bay, Miami-Dade, Broward, or surrounding regions are preferred. Significant statewide travel is required. Flexible scheduling is expected, though evening and weekend work will occasionally be necessary.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Build and maintain relationships with community members, advocates, faith leaders, coalition partners, and individuals directly impacted by the death penalty.
- Organize and coordinate events including vigils, rallies, town halls, educational forums, community meetings, and advocacy actions.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers and local leaders throughout Florida.
- Mobilize supporters to participate in legislative advocacy, public education efforts, and grassroots campaigns.
- Work alongside impacted families, survivors, and community members to elevate their voices and leadership.
- Develop partnerships with allied organizations, faith communities, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders working toward justice reform.
- Coordinate with statewide and national abolition organizations on shared campaigns and initiatives.
- Support FADP's legislative and policy advocacy efforts through constituent engagement, grassroots lobbying, and public education.
- Create written materials including action alerts, outreach materials, event communications, and reports.
- Assist with social media content creation and digital organizing efforts.
- Represent FADP at conferences, coalition meetings, legislative events, and community gatherings.
- Identify emerging opportunities for organizing, coalition building, and campaign development.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of FADP's mission.

- Proficiency with social media platforms and basic digital organizing tools.
- Familiarity with Florida politics, legislative advocacy, or criminal legal system reform is helpful but not required.
