Since 2001, our staff has been leaders in innovative ways to approach education. Element Education is a non-profit corporation that oversees two publicly funded charter schools.
The mission of its schools and programs shall be to inspire each child’s natural desire to learn by offering choice, flexibility, and learning standards based on learning styles and the developmental stages of the learner. This is accomplished through the use of research-based learning styles programs and in partnership with parents and community resources.
Learners will be knowledgeable and skilled (mastery), self-directed (autonomy), and engaged in meaningful learning (purpose) in their educational journey to adulthood.
With 1,600 students throughout San Diego County, Element Education is home to Dimensions Collaborative with its personalized learning styles models, and Community Montessori , which implements Montessori Style principles.
Governing Board Duties and Responsibilities:
Board members are expected to attend up to 12 board meetings per year. The Governing Board meets on a Friday each month. Meetings begin at 11:30 a.m. and end around 1:30 p.m. Board members are expected to read board materials in advance of board meetings and to come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.
Duties:
- Provide continuity for the organization by representing the organization’s point of view through the interpretation of its services and advocacy for them.
- Select and appoint an Executive Director to whom responsibility for the administration of the organization is delegated, including:
- review and evaluate his/her performance regularly based on a specific job description, including executive relations with the board, leadership in the organization, program planning and implementation, and management of the organization and its personnel.
- to offer administrative guidance and determine whether to retain or dismiss the Executive Director
- Govern the organization by broad policies and objectives, formulated and agreed upon by the Executive Director and employees, including assigning priorities and ensuring the organization’s capacity to carry out programs by continually reviewing its work.
- Acquire sufficient resources for the organization’s operations and to finance the products and services adequately.
- Account to the public for the products and services of the organization and expenditures of its funds, including:
- to provide for fiscal accountability, approve the budget, and formulate policies related to contracts from public or private resources
