Job Summary Primary responsibilities include the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents experiencing psychological problems associated with medical or surgical conditions. Direct clinical services will be integrated into multidisciplinary medical care teams. Provision of direct, evidence‑based patient care may occur in inpatient units and/or outpatient medical or behavioral health clinics. The psychologist will work with their assigned medical team to integrate psychosocial and medical services, focused on enhancing optimal patient outcomes. The role also includes education and training for all providers regarding the psychosocial care of families with medical or surgical conditions; teaching and supervising trainees, including students in the APA‑accredited psychology internship program and post‑doctoral fellows; and engaging in scholarly activities such as research, program development and presentation of findings at national conferences. Essential Job Functions Provides psychological evaluations and treatment for children treated in a pediatric specialty division, in inpatient and/or ambulatory settings. Collaborates with the specialty division team in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures specific to psychological care for pediatric patients. May provide clinical services for other medical psychologists and clinicians in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry when coverage is needed. Administers and interprets objective or symptom‑based questionnaire measures as indicated. Maintains appropriate clinical documentation in the electronic medical record, writes letters, notes, and formal clinical reports. Communicates progress over telephone and via the electronic medical record; collaborates and consults with medical providers, schools, social service agencies, and government agencies. Completes case‑management duties including discharge planning, diagnostic evaluation, and referrals to support services. Participates in rounds, patient care conferences, multidisciplinary case conferences, staffing team meetings, and discipline‑specific team meetings. Provides training through direct supervision and didactic courses in clinical child and pediatric psychology to students, interns, and fellows. Engages in research activities relevant to pediatric subspecialty. Follows protocols and procedures of the Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Lurie Children’s Hospital. Participates in continuing education events and mandatory courses required to maintain professional certification/licensure. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to think proactively, act creatively, and take initiative. Excellent communication, critical‑thinking, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work and lead with a strong spirit of collegiality within multidisciplinary teams. Physical ability to sit, stand, and manage patients in crisis situations. Basic Life Support certification. Education & Licensure PhD in clinical psychology or related area with APA‑approved internship. Completion of a one‑year fellowship in clinical child psychology or pediatric psychology. Licensed or license‑eligible; if license‑eligible, must obtain license and clinical privileges prior to start date. Pay Range $100,000.00–$1,000,000.00 (salary reflects minimum and maximum targets for the position).
