Job Summary:

This role involves assessing and providing care for patients requiring respiratory therapy, as well as administering prescribed therapeutic services.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Evaluate patients to determine the appropriate treatment type and frequency, creating a care plan based on their diagnosis.
• Deliver respiratory care services in alignment with physician orders, departmental policies, and established guidelines.
• Implement and oversee the patient care plan and equipment, while monitoring, documenting, and communicating the patient's condition. Execute advanced respiratory care techniques.
• Assess respiratory practices, medication administration, and treatment effectiveness based on patient outcomes.
• Provide education to patients and their families regarding health conditions and inform them about community support resources and programs.
• Assist with the care, calibration, and maintenance of all equipment, while also helping to manage departmental inventory levels for supplies and equipment. Ensure equipment is cleaned and sterilized according to established protocols.
• Respond to medical emergencies and rapid response situations.
• Maintain a state of alertness and safety at all times.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

• Associate's degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE

• No prior experience is necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Regular verbal communication is essential for sharing information.
• Frequent standing and walking are required.
• Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling of objects weighing between 0-25 lbs.
• Regular sitting, reaching, and data entry tasks.
• Frequent visual acuity for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, including color differentiation.
• Regular olfactory recognition for detecting odors.
• Frequent auditory skills for receiving verbal communication and identifying body sounds or alarms.
• Occasional lifting of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
• Occasional patient handling and movement.
• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive movements of the legs and arms.
• Occasional driving may be required.
• Rarely, crawling and running may be necessary.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

• Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
• Respiratory Care Practitioner - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
