Laboratory Technician I

Position is located in the PDRC Diagnostic Laboratory and deals with formalin fixed tissues from the poultry industry and requires laboratory skills that promote turn-around time for diagnostic test and research results.

The ability to identify organs from dead animals, follow diagnostic protocols with minimal supervision, and ability to work well and coordinate with others to perform duties in a timely fashion.

Using the microtome, embedding tissues, routine staining of slides and using knowledge of special stains routinely used in a diagnostic setting and for research submissions. File slides, blocks and maintain records to allow trace back of all samples. Assess and prioritize cases.

Trimming formalin fixed animal tissues, using knowledge of instrumentation for tissue processing and cover slipping, using IHCstainer, running the CBG Biotech Recycler. Helping with research analysis when appropriate.

Routine preparation of laboratory solutions, maintenance of stainer, tissue processor, and cover slipping. Proper disposal of hazardous waste. Informing the laboratory manager of supplies needed. Continuing education: Keep current of all laboratory regulations. Update SOPs for lab procedures.
