In this role it is based out of the Las Vegas Health and Wellness Center located in the Courtyard servicing unhoused individuals. The Medical Assistant participates in the delivery of excellent medical services in a patient centered environment with an emphasis on the prevention of disease; preparation of the patient for examination and/or procedures; administers medications under direction of provider; performs in office lab procedures and phlebotomy on pediatric and adult patients; sterilizes instruments and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. This will include actively participating in and supporting quality improvement activities and the clinical practice teams with these efforts. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build trust with patients from diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to treating all individuals with dignity, empathy, and respect. Team members should be comfortable working with patients who may face complex medical, behavioral health, social, and housing challenges. This Medical Assistant position is unique from a traditional clinic-based role. The successful candidate will provide compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable populations. Nevada Health Centers is an employer of choice and offers comprehensive benefits, including but not limited to: Competitive compensation, with annual merit increases Company sponsored PPO medical plan and buy-up option, vision, and dental plans 403(b) retirement plan with employer match Generous time-off policy, and ten (10) paid holidays plus one (1) float holiday Company paid life/AD&D and long-term disability policies Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare patients and treatment rooms for examination and treatment Take patient histories and vital signs Administer injections and apply dressings as instructed Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization Observes all infection control policies Assist providers in preparing for minor surgeries and exams Assist with scheduling tests and treatments Complete and maintain patient documentation, files, records and other information Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested Works closely with the providers to receive guidance and instruction for treating patients Maintain appropriate communication and good interpersonal skills with supervisors, providers, staff andpatients to ensure coordinated efforts and provision of high-quality service Take all necessary precautions to protect center assets and property against loss or wastethrough negligence or dishonesty Utilizes equipment that interfaces with NVHC EMR system (e.g. EKG, spirometry, etc.) Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED Equivalent Certification of completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience National certification through NHA as a Clinical Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA). If not currently nationally certified must obtain within 180 days of employment. BLS/CPR Certification Preferred Qualifications 1 year experience as a medical assistant in family medicine Skill in operating computer databases; EHR/EMR Ability to read, write, and calculate mathematical figures Knowledge of general office practices in a medical setting Knowledge of medical examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner Ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively, and sensitively to underserved populations Knowledge of ADA, CPT, and ICD-9-CM coding Equal Opportunity Statement Nevada Health Centers will provide equal opportunity employment to all employees and applicants for employment.
