Nocturnal Advanced Practice Provider - Acute Care Services

Midlevel Provider
Acute Care Services is seeking highly skilled Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (AGACNPs) and Physician Assistants with a strong clinical background in medical-surgical, Neuro ICU, critical care, and surgical settings. The ideal candidate demonstrates advanced clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to manage complex, high-acuity patients.
Successful candidates will be comfortable working across multiple care environments and have experience supporting rapid-response functions, including MERIT and RAPID teams, as well as triage and the management of deteriorating patients on the floor. They must be confident in identifying clinical decline, initiating timely interventions, and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Candidates must be able to commit to a night shift schedule of 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, working seven shifts every two weeks, including weekends and rotating holidays.
This role requires individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments, possess strong communication skills, and are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
The primary purpose of the Midlevel Provider is to provide patient care in the inpatient setting. The Midlevel Provider will work as a member of the MLP Nocturnal Coverage Team to provide initial assessment and management of urgent issues at night related to internal medicine or critical care needs across the institution. The Midlevel Provider will facilitate communication and carry out orders from attending physicians related to patient care.
Key functions include:
- Providing competent patient care in the inpatient setting across the institution.
- Providing initial assessment and management for urgent internal medicine or critical care needs at night.
- Conducting comprehensive health assessments, identifying normal and abnormal health characteristics, initiating appropriate care and continuously evaluating care outcomes.
- Providing post-admission assessments for night time admissions.
- Completing sign-out communications and patient care logs as directed by the medical director and administrative director of the Nocturnal Coverage Team.
- Performing delegated functions under the supervision of the physician to include differential diagnosis, use of prescriptive authority and treatment of a variety of human responses according to practice guidelines, protocols or standing orders.
- Using judgment to collaborate with the healthcare team to manage client care throughout the continuum of care and in a variety of settings.

Education:
- Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.
Work Experience:
- Required: 2 years professional clinical experience. Required experience may be substituted with the successful completion of a one year advanced practice provider fellowship/residency program.
- Preferred: 3 years Three to five years experience as a clinical advanced practice provider. Previous clinical practice in oncology, critical care, internal medicine, hospital medicine or pediatrics.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Required: PA - Physician Assistant Written authorization from the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as Physician Assistant. Upon Hire or

- Preferred: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification as required by patient care area. Upon Hire
- Required: Clinical Privileges Must obtain and maintain relevant clinical privileges. Continued employment in this position at MD Anderson is contingent upon maintaining these privileges.
