Registered Nurse - PCU

Pediatric Care Unit Registered Nurse

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses for a Pediatric Care Unit (PCU) assignment. This position requires a minimum of 2 years of recent acute care experience, including handling patient types such as AFIB/RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, ARF, s/p Heart Caths, Stroke (CVA/TIA) with TPA administration, and spinal surgeries like ACDF and Laminectomy. Travelers must be separated for at least 1 year if previously employed as permanent staff. First-time travelers are eligible if they meet the experience criteria.

Schedule & Shifts:

• Working every Monday/Tuesday on a 5/2 rotation
• Night shift working 4 days one week and 3 days the next week (mandatory)
• Weekend rotation every other week
• Holiday work expected (2/3 holidays)
• Schedule includes working 5 on, 5 off, 2 on, 2 off cycles
• Must pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival

Patient Ratios:

• RN: 1:3
• CNA: 1:7

Essential Certifications:

• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS

Skills & Support:

• Ability to titrate medications such as Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, Levophed (manager approval required if experience not current)
• Chest tube management, tracheostomy care, Peritoneal Dialysis, ISTAT, CSF drains (preferred)
• In-house resources include charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, RT, hospitalist, OT, PT, ST, and centralized telemetry monitoring
• Support staff as specified, with orientation to Meditech Expanse EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Unit includes support on Stroke and MedSurg units with patient ratios of 1:3 and 1:5-6 respectively

Preparation & Attire:

• Scrub color: Pewter
• T-shirts: gray, white, or black with WK monogram
• Jackets: gray or black
• Badges must be worn above the waist and visible at all times

• Support for orientation includes hospital and unit-specific training
