Product Counsel Instacart’s product portfolio is expanding rapidly into new international markets, physical hardware like Caper carts, and retailer‑facing platforms like Storefront Pro, building on top of the core business. These initiatives require a strategic legal partner embedded with development teams from the start—someone who understands business objectives, early identifies key legal risks, and creatively maintains product momentum while managing those risks. Key Responsibilities Serve as a strategic legal partner to product, engineering, and design teams across new product launches. Identify jurisdiction‑specific risks early and build scalable compliance frameworks that can be reused across initiatives. Guide teams through complex and evolving regulatory landscapes, providing practical, creative solutions that enable business objectives. Accelerate development by finding clear, concise legal advice that keeps projects on track. Integrate AI‑assisted workflows and reduce time‑to‑answer for recurring legal questions across Product, BD, and Operations. Manage exposure across consumer protection, payments, privacy, and commercial compliance with documented risk frameworks and clear escalation paths. Act as the point of contact for cross‑functional legal processes, ensuring measurable efficiency gains. Build and maintain effective relationships with business partners, enabling them to launch ambitious ideas with confidence. Work closely with product initiatives to resolve legal challenges and keep product timelines moving. Collaborate with stakeholders to align legal strategy with company growth goals. Qualifications Proven ability to independently manage competing priorities across multiple teams in a fast‑paced environment. Creative, business‑minded approach to legal problem‑solving with practical paths forward on novel issues within product constraints. 5+ years of legal experience at a leading law firm or in‑house legal department. Strong ability to provide clear, concise legal advice and drive cross‑functional results. Familiarity with legal issues in internet and e‑commerce spaces (commercial, copyright, privacy, advertising, payments, SaaS). Comfort working with AI tools to drive efficiency and streamline legal processes. J.D. from a top‑tier law school with active bar membership in at least one U.S. state. In‑house experience at a tech company or retailer, directly or via secondment. Background in antitrust, consumer protection, platform businesses or privacy/data security law (including GDPR and U.S.‑E.U. Privacy Shield).
