Maintains radio network infrastructure that includes 27 RF tower sites and dispatch consoles at 29 communication centers. Operates autonomously throughout the day and participates in weekly on-call rotation. Summary Responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing radio communication systems, supporting end users, and setting up and using test measurement and diagnostic equipment. This position is on-call as needed to respond to service-impacting conditions. Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintains the radio network, including radio tower sites.
• Works with customers to support infrastructure needs and issues.
• Manages and supervises on site vendors.
• Maintains dispatch center assets, network domain server, and security.
• Programs and troubleshoots network routers and switches. Maintains and troubleshoots radio base stations.
• Performs preventative maintenance on radio transmitters and receivers.
• Provides documentation of sites and equipment.
• Sets up, installs, tests, and upgrades systems.
• Work requires the occasional direction of radio system specialists, radio system technicians, helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.
• Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Three (3) or more years of experience in public safety, networking, and mobile communications
• Must have valid U.S. driver's license
• Six (6) months minimum as a Radio System Specialist with the City of Charlotte
• Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
