About the Role
The Company is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to take the lead in managing external legal matters and providing strategic legal counsel to support the growth and evolution of its consumer-finance business. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of legal issues, including consumer litigation, arbitration, regulatory examinations, and escalated legal complaints. This role requires a seasoned attorney with a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, an active license to practice law, and at least 8 years of relevant legal experience, particularly in a fintech, high-growth lending, or highly regulated environment. The Assistant General Counsel will also be involved in legal strategy, operational effectiveness, and will serve as a trusted legal partner to the organization's leaders. Applicants for the Assistant General Counsel position at the company should have a strong background in consumer-financial-services laws and regulations, with a focus on areas such as lending, servicing, payments, credit reporting, collections, and lease-to-own products. The role demands a professional with significant experience in managing complex legal matters and a proven track record of advising business leaders on legal and regulatory risks. The ideal candidate will possess strong advocacy, analytical, negotiation, collaboration, and communication skills, and the ability to provide clear, risk-based legal recommendations. A practical, proactive approach, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment are essential. Experience with regulatory agencies and a background in capital markets are considered a plus.
