Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to join our team. This role is essential in providing care to mothers and newborns during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.

Shift Information

• Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
• Weekend and Holiday Requirements: As needed based on unit needs

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Labor and Delivery (L&D)
• Number of L&D Beds: 10
• Number of OR Suites for C-Sections: 2
• Number of Triage Beds: 4
• Number of Postpartum Beds: 10
• Average Births per Month: Approximately 120
• Nurse to Patient Ratios: AWHONN standards (primarily 1:1 in L&D and 1:6 couple care in postpartum)

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality care to laboring patients, including those undergoing elective and medical inductions.
• Monitor fetal well-being and maternal health utilizing advanced fetal monitoring techniques.
• Circulate in the operating room during C-sections.
• Assist with triage and assessment of patients in labor.
• Administer medications and titrate IV drips as per established protocols.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including OB hospitalists, midwives, and anesthesiologists, who are available 24/7.
• Participate in patient education and ensure emotional support for new mothers and families.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery and Postpartum nursing.
• Required Certifications: ACLS, Advanced Fetal Monitoring, BLS, NRP, and Stable.
• Experience in triage is strongly preferred.
• Ability to float to similar units as needed within the region.

Support Staff and Resources

• Charge Nurse and Resource RN on each shift to provide guidance and support.
• CNA available for support on the unit 4-5 days per week.
• Unit clerks available 24/7 for administrative tasks.
• Neonatal NP and Neonatologist on-call at all times, with availability within 15 minutes.
• CRNA on-duty 24/7 for anesthesia needs.

Orientation

New hires will undergo a customized orientation process, typically consisting of 4-6 shifts, tailored to individual experience and unit needs.
