Controller

We're seeking a Controller for our client, a publicly traded, small-cap upstream oil & gas company headquartered in Houston. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller owns the accounting function end to end: a hands-on leadership seat in a lean organization. Key Responsibilities Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, driving timeliness and accuracy Lead preparation of SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K), including financial statements, footnotes, and MD&A support Serve as primary day-to-day contact for external auditors; manage audit and review timelines and deliverables Perform technical accounting research and draft position memos (revenue recognition, derivatives and hedging, asset retirement obligations, impairment, DD&A/depletion) Oversee oil & gas revenue accounting, joint interest billing, royalty and severance tax compliance Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting Manage, develop, and mentor accounting staff Support treasury and cash management, including lender and covenant reporting Partner with the CFO on board materials, budgeting, and ad hoc analysis Drive continuous improvement in close processes, systems, and documentation Qualifications CPA required 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including accounting leadership Public company experience required - direct ownership of or significant contribution to SEC filings Upstream / E&P industry experience strongly preferred (JIB, depletion, revenue accounting) Derivative and hedge accounting exposure a plus Public accounting foundation preferred Thrives in a small-company environment: resourceful, detail-oriented, comfortable being both leader and doer #J-18808-Ljbffr Green Lion Search Group
