Interventional Radiology RN Neuro

Job Summary:

The Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse with neuro specialization is responsible for comprehensive patient assessment, recognizing and managing complications, and implementing radiation safety measures. This role involves explaining procedures to patients and families, collaborating with radiologists and team members, and making critical decisions in fast-paced environments. The nurse provides sedation and care during invasive and non-invasive radiological procedures, ensuring patient safety and effective treatment. A minimum of 2 years of neuro experience is preferred, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities across departments. Responsibilities:

• Perform general patient assessments, including head-to-toe evaluations and complication recognition.
• Implement radiation safety measures when applicable.
• Explain procedures to patients and family members, addressing concerns effectively.
• Communicate patient needs and conditions with radiologists and interdisciplinary team members.
• Provide sedation and monitor patients during invasive procedures such as port placements, line insertions/removals, CT biopsies, chest tube placements, and neurovascular interventions.
• Manage non-invasive procedures including sedation for MRIs and cardiac device monitoring.
• Administer common medications such as Versed, Fentanyl, Cefazolin, Levaquin, Lidocaine, and Nitroglycerin Spray.
• Operate and maintain equipment including computers, ISTAT, ACT machines, Penumbra, IV pumps, and vital sign monitors.
• Maintain a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio during procedural sedation.
• Provide line management including IV insertion, PICC/central line care, and vascular device access.
• Perform cardiac monitoring including telemetry interpretation and cardioversion/defibrillation.
• Conduct airway management and procedural sedation safely and effectively.
• Circulate in OBGYN/operating room settings as required.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum 2 years of neuro nursing experience preferred.
• Proficient in IV insertion, PICC/central line management, and vascular device care.
• Cardiac skills including telemetry interpretation and cardioversion/defibrillation.
• Airway management and procedural sedation expertise.
• Strong patient assessment and critical decision-making skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with sheath removal procedures.
• Familiarity with chemo embolizations and uterine artery embolizations.
• Knowledge of neurovascular intervention for stroke.

Special Considerations:

• Position includes rotating on-call shifts Monday through Friday from 16:30 to 07:30 and weekends 07:00 to 07:00, including holidays.
• Work involves exposure to radiation and requires adherence to safety protocols.
• Fast-paced, multi-departmental environment requiring adaptability and multitasking.
• Procedural sedation requires 1:1 nurse-to-patient care ratio.

Scheduling:

• Day shift with rotating call responsibilities as specified.
• Call schedule includes weekdays evenings/nights and 24-hour weekend coverage.
