In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting patients throughout their cancer treatment journey by providing exceptional care, accurate specimen collection, and a reassuring presence during each visit. Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. JobSummary: Responsibleforprovidingcomplexphlebotomyservicesforpatientsandalldutiesassignedtothe Phlebotomist. The phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining blood samples as directed by the physicians, maintaining integrity of the sample including labeling, marking appropriate documents, and approving in our ONCO EMR. Also drawing specimens and completing order requisitions for any send out testing. Job Duties/Responsibilities: Cooperatewithotherdepartmentsinateamapproachtoachieveobjectivesandgoals. Performsroutinephlebotomywhileprovidingsafepatient care. KnowhowtooperateOncoandLabdaq. Ensurethatequipmentandfacilitiesareinproperconditionforuseindeliveringhealthcare. Maintainsgoodpersonalrelationsandcommunicationamongstaff. Restockphlebotomysupplies,cleansequipmentandworkareaaccording to policy. Disposeofcontaminatedmaterialsinappropriatecontainers(Sharps,Biohazard, etc) Attendmeetingsandparticipatesinapositive manner. Maintainspatients’confidentiality. Performsrelatedworkasrequired. FollowsOSHAandHIPPA requirements. Required Skills/Abilities: Knowledgeofcurrentmedicalterminologyandtheabilitytocommunicatewithmedicalstaffregarding laboratory issues. Skillinanticipatingandreactingcalmlytoemergencysituations. Skillinestablishingandmaintainingeffectiveworkingrelationshipswithpatients,medicalstaffandthe public. Basiccomputerskillsarerequiredtoadequatelyperformthisjob. Skillandproficiencyinobtainingthespecimens,whichincludesbutnotlimitedto,basicphlebotomy using venous access devices and maintaining the patency of these devices when used. Certifications/Licenses/Education/orExperienceinarelated field: HighSchooleducationorGEDrequired. Additionaleducationbyanaccreditedprograminphlebotomyisrequired. Mustholdacurrentcertificationtoperform phlebotomy. Somephlebotomyexperiencepreferred butnotrequiredtoobtain position. Physical Requirements: StandingandWalking:Mustbeabletostandandwalkforextendedperiodsthroughouttheshift. Liftingandmovingpatients:Abilitytolift,move,andassistpatients,oftenrequiringmorethan50 pounds. PushingandPulling:Mustbeabletopushandmaneuverequipmentandpatienttransport devices. FineMotorSkills:Requiresgoodhand-eyecoordinationtooperatecontrolsandhandlesmallobjects. RepetitiveMotions:Frequentuseofhandandfingersforoperatingmachineryandadjustingsettings. BendingandReaching:Mustbend,stoop,twist,andreachtopositionpatientsandoperate equipment. Will require moderate computer usage at a workstation, and moderate periods of sitting. This may include written work as well as computer work.
