Job DetailsLevel: EntryJob Location: Houma, LA 70360Position Type: Full TimeTeche Health, A Federally Qualified Health Center, per Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act, is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Medical Assistant at our Teche Health @ Davuluri Children's Clinic in Houma, LA. JOB SUMMARY: The Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting providers and nurses with daily clinic duties to include providing quality care as per the scope of practice guidelines. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong customer service skills. Must be able to coordinate work within the department, as well as other departments, including occasional reassignments between regional clinics. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates ability to coordinate activities with the front desk staff and triage all incoming patients for the medical providers regardless of appointment status. Greets patients and validates patient information via patient interviews and patient screenings. Documents pertinent information appropriately in EHR while following Teche Health guidelines. Maintains and secures patient information. Utilizes time management skills to ensure that everyone is seen in a timely manner, communicate wait times and return phone calls promptly. Follows up on missed appointments. Demonstrates valid competency in measuring temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and head circumference, height and weight and lab measurements per Teche Health requirements. Demonstrate ability to successfully complete validation of skills and cross training competencies. Maintains logs and supplies as directed by the Nursing Supervisor per Teche Health requirements. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: High school diploma required Completion of medical assistant program PREFERRED. No experience required. Communication Ability: Excellent communication skills at level necessary for understanding and relaying instructions to participants/patients for accurately documenting information. Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public. Math Ability: Basic Math Skills Reasoning Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret directives from supervisor and TAC personnel. Computer Skills: Education/training or work experience in computer basics and data entry a must. Ability to utilize the EHR systems. Professional Skills: Ability to assume responsibility and exercise authority over assigned work functions. Ability to establish and maintain quality control standards. Ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel. Skill in organizing work, making assignments, and achieving goals and objectives. Knowledge of the purposes, organization and policies of the community’s health systems sufficient to interact with other health care providers. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, policy‑making bodies, third‑party payers, patients, and the public.
