Nursing Instructor

The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is now hiring Part-Time Nursing Instructors to work in our Adult Education Programs. The hours for this position are Thursdays and Fridays —Days from 7AM-2:30PM OR Evenings 3PM-10:30PM. These positions will be from August to December for lab and long-term care rotations.

 

• Registered Professional Nurse currently licensed in the State of New York.
• BSN Required.
• PN instructors should be eligible for certification as teacher of Basic Skills in Nursing (Adult Education Certificate).
• Current experience in the clinical area, i.e. acute care setting (hospital), rehabilitative and extended care facilities.
• Current teaching experience preferred.
• Current CPR Certification.

Reporting Responsibilities:

This staff position is directly responsible to the Coordinator of Healthcare Occupations and Director of Adult Education.

Position Objective:

Nursing faculty member function to assist student to achieve learning objectives and develop skills. The faculty member works closely with the coordinator to provide students feedback designed to promote personal and professional growth. 

Position duties/Responsibilities: 

Clinical:

• Prepare and post clinical assignments. 
• Prepare and lead pre and post-conference.
• Review student materials to insure clinical preparedness. 
• Observe patient care given by students.
• Review clinical documentation for charting.
• Provide student with appropriate written feedback daily.

Programmatic:

• Actively participate in the development, revision, and implementation of the curriculum.
• Act as a student advisor – meeting with assigned students at least three times per semester. 

Personal:

• Act as a positive role model for students.
• Attend and participate in professional workshops and conferences.
• Attend and participate faculty meetings.
• Maintain and update professional knowledge through continuing education programs and professional journals.
• Perform other duties and assignments as designated by the Director of Adult Education 
• Inform the coordinator of any student at risk for failure due to unsatisfactory or unsafe clinical practice.
• Communicate with staff concerning student expectations and limitations.
