Senior Bar Counsel – Lawyer Regulation – Fort Lauderdale/Miami

Help regulate the practice of law in Florida.

As an official arm of the Florida Supreme Court, the Florida Bar and its Division of Lawyer Regulation administers a statewide disciplinary system enforcing rules of professional conduct for its members. As a Senior Bar Counsel in Lawyer Regulation, you will act at all investigative and trial levels of processing complaints alleging violation of Rules Regulating The Florida Bar and decide whether the complaint should be dismissed or forwarded to a grievance committee for appropriate action.

What You Will Do

• Prosecute trials. Complete all legal functions in disciplinary cases as necessary to resolve cases. This includes investigation, preparation of pleadings, conducting discovery, handling hearings and trials before Court-appointed referees, and preparing appellate records
• Prepare record for and conduct grievance committee meetings and provide counsel and advice to grievance committees with respect to the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar
• Conduct investigation of complaints alleging violation of Rules Regulating The Florida Bar. Make decisions as to whether complaints should be dismissed or forwarded to a grievance committee for appropriate action
• Perform other duties as assigned

Who Should Apply

• Juris Doctor and a member in good standing of The Florida Bar
• Senior Bar Counsel - Three or more years of legal experience as an attorney in effective case management, trials, pre-trials matters, and development of trial strategy 
  • Bar Counsel - At least one year of legal experience as an attorney in effective case management, trials, pre-trials matters, and development of trial strategy
• Knowledge of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar, Bar disciplinary procedures, Legal terminology and the judicial process, and Rules of Civil Procedure
• Skilled in case management, preparing pleadings and appellate briefs, investigation, developing trial strategy, legal and analytical communication, both oral and written
• Conducting discovery and internet research
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
• Ability to organize work, set priorities, and exercise discretion and independent judgment
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures, provide appropriate advice on procedures and legal issues, manage a caseload, work collegially with other professionals and as part of a team, and operate well under pressure and tactfully manage difficult situations
