Nurse Practitioner I/ Physician Assistant I - J2 CVICU

Overview Stanford’s Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) on J2 seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to manage postoperative cardiac surgery patients in a critical, fast-paced environment. The APP will work with physicians, nurses, and other providers to deliver high-quality care. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive care to 4–6 post-cardiac surgery patients per shift, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management. Perform patient rounds, formulate care plans, order and adjust treatment protocols, and perform procedures such as central/arterial lines, bedside echocardiography, ultrasound, bronchoscopies, cardioversions, and other required interventions. Monitor patients’ progress, address complications or changes in condition promptly. Coordinate care with anesthesiologists, attending surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and other specialists as needed. Complete timely and accurate documentation, including progress notes, procedure reports, discharge summaries, and billing information. Ensure clear communication with multidisciplinary team regarding patient status, changes, and discharge planning. Precept and mentor APP Fellows in the Cardiac Surgery APP Fellowship program, providing guidance, feedback, and educational opportunities. Supervise and support student learners (nurse practitioner and physician assistant students) during clinical rotations. Collaborate with attending surgeons, intensivists, nursing staff, and other team members to deliver optimal patient care. Qualifications Master’s or Doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited institution (or equivalent clinical experience). Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (NLNAC or CCNE). Current state licensure as Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner (or relevant advanced practice provider license). Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); advanced life support (ACL/ACLS) preferred. Experience in critical care or cardiac surgery settings highly desired. Strong clinical judgment, ability to manage complex postoperative patients, and perform required procedures. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
