Position Overview

Job Posting Note: Our organization is currently seeking full-time, board eligible or board certified pediatric hematologist/oncologists. We welcome candidates with interests in benign hematology, immune deficiencies, white blood cell disorders, or bone marrow failure syndromes. Experience in research and program development is highly valued as we aim to enhance our services in these areas.

Key responsibilities will encompass clinical care, educational roles, and involvement in clinical research. The selected candidate will play a vital and collaborative role within the Division of Hematology/Oncology/BMT at our Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, managing both inpatient and outpatient hematology cases.

Our Center serves as the primary referral hub in the Southwestern region, handling approximately 1,500 new hematology patients annually. We have a significant patient base, including nearly 550 individuals with congenital bleeding disorders at our federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, over 325 patients with sickle cell/thalassemia, and around 150 new thrombosis cases each year. We operate multidisciplinary clinics for hemophilia, congenital bleeding disorders, immunohematology, neurovascular diseases, sickle cell/thalassemia, and other patients requiring chronic transfusions, including those with bone marrow failure and red blood cell enzyme deficiencies. Our hematology team is dedicated to delivering top-notch care to the Southwest community. Additionally, we have active clinical and laboratory research initiatives, along with multiple ongoing clinical trials. We are looking for someone eager to contribute to the growth and development of this program.

Qualified candidates must be board eligible or board certified in pediatric hematology-oncology and possess a strong interest in hematology. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively on patient-centered, division-focused, and hospital-wide initiatives.

The staff physician will provide patient care services and uphold our organization's mission of delivering hope, healing, and exceptional healthcare for children and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care Services

  1) Deliver patient care services within the scope of clinical privileges, including but not limited to:
  a) Direct patient care for both inpatient and outpatient settings
  b) Provide subspecialty consultations and follow-up care
  c) Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  d) Offer urgent/emergent care as required
  2) Aim for optimal patient and family-centered care
  3) Support the hospital's patient satisfaction objectives and division-specific targets
  4) Adhere to divisional standards for patient safety and quality of care
  5) Practice contemporary evidence-based medicine or the latest experience-based approaches.

• Divisional Responsibilities

  1) Set and strive to meet annual goals and objectives for physicians (individual, division, hospital)
  2) Contribute to the medical education programs and activities of the Division, including but not limited to:
  a) Supervise trainees and allied health professionals in delivering inpatient and outpatient services when applicable
  b) Conduct teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences for trainees
  c) Engage in the education and supervision of trainees and allied health professionals assigned to the division
  d) Participate in postgraduate continuing education activities of the division
  3) Support the division's research initiatives, including those led by other members
  4) Foster programmatic growth within the division
  5) Assist with satellite efforts of the division when appropriate.

  4) The following physical and mental skills are essential for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities:
  a) Ability to communicate via telephone, computer, or other communication devices
  b) Willingness to perform after-hours or night call responsibilities as necessary
  c) Ability to maintain a regular work schedule.
