The Hematology/Oncology Division at our organization is in search of a full-time, board-eligible or board-certified pediatric hematologist/oncologist. We welcome candidates with interests in areas such as benign hematology, immune deficiencies, white blood cell disorders, or bone marrow failure syndromes. Experience in research and program development is highly valued as we aim to enhance our offerings in these fields.

The selected candidate will engage in clinical care, educational activities, and clinical research. This role involves being an active and collaborative member of the Hematology/Oncology/BMT Division within the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, participating in both inpatient and outpatient management of hematology patients.

Our Center serves as the primary referral facility in the Southwestern region, handling approximately 1,500 new hematology cases annually. We currently manage a substantial hematology patient base, including nearly 550 patients with congenital bleeding disorders at our federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, over 325 patients with sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and around 150 new thrombosis patients each year. We operate multidisciplinary clinics for hemophilia, congenital bleeding disorders, immunohematology, neurovascular diseases, sickle cell/thalassemia, and other patients requiring chronic transfusions due to various conditions, including bone marrow failure and RBC enzyme deficiencies. Our hematology team is dedicated to delivering top-tier care to the Southwest's patient population. Additionally, we have active clinical and laboratory research initiatives, along with multiple ongoing clinical trials. We are eager to find someone who is passionate about expanding and developing our programs further.

Qualified candidates must be board eligible or board certified in pediatric hematology-oncology and possess a keen interest in hematology. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with teams on patient-centered, division-focused, and hospital-wide initiatives.

Position Responsibilities

• Patient Care Services

  1) Deliver patient care services within the scope of clinical privileges, including but not limited to:
  a) Providing direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  b) Offering subspecialty consultations and follow-up care.
  c) Conducting diagnostic and therapeutic services/procedures.
  d) Delivering urgent/emergent care as required.
  2) Aim for optimal patient and family-centered care.
  3) Contribute to the hospital's patient satisfaction objectives as well as specific division targets.
  4) Uphold divisional standards for patient safety and quality of care.
  5) Practice contemporary evidence-based medicine or the latest experience-based approaches.

• Divisional Responsibilities

  1) Set and work towards achieving annual goals and objectives for physicians (individual, division, hospital).
  2) Support the medical education initiatives of the Division, including but not limited to:
  a) Directly supervising trainees and allied health professionals in delivering inpatient and outpatient services when applicable.
  b) Conducting teaching rounds, lectures, and conferences for trainees.
  c) Participating in the education and supervision of trainees and allied health professionals assigned to the division.
  d) Engaging in postgraduate continuing education activities within the division.
  3) Contribute to the division's research efforts, including initiatives led by other division members.
  4) Foster programmatic growth within the division.
  5) Support satellite initiatives of the division when appropriate.

  4) The following physical and mental skills are essential for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities:
  a) Ability to communicate via telephone, computer, or other communication devices.
  b) Willingness to perform after-hours or night call responsibilities as necessary.
  c) Capability to work regular scheduled hours.
